We need ambitious,
Australian innovation.

Not more taxes.

The Albanese Labor Government’s 2026-27 Budget delivered a fresh blow to Australian-based innovation, doubling the capital gains tax, which threatens to send home-grown talent, ideas, jobs and capital offshore.

This new Tech Tax will be devastating for Australian startups.

At a time when starting an Australian venture and hard work should be encouraged for our nation’s prosperity, Labor is doubling your tax.

The changes are so bad that the Treasurer has already admitted that “there is more work to do” .

This new Tech Tax is yet another one-eyed approach from a government that talks about a Future Made in Australia, while simultaneously dismantling the structures that allow Australian-based innovation to get off the ground.

We need to support Australian startups, talent, innovation and ambition.

We, the undersigned, call on the Treasurer to immediately reverse the 2026–27 Budget Capital Gains Tax changes. This 'Tech Tax' threatens Australian start-ups and stifles homegrown innovation. We urge the Treasurer to reverse the 'Tech Tax' and back Australian ambition.

This petition will be presented by Aaron Violi MP, Federal Shadow Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation directly to Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
